Credit Karma, the top venture-backed personal finance company in the world, today announced it has named Susannah Wright its first general counsel. Previously head of compliance at SolarCity and Tesla, Wright also joins Credit Karma’s executive committee.As general counsel, Wright oversees all legal matters at Credit Karma including corporate, regulatory, consumer protection, compliance and government affairs.“We are proud to welcome Susannah to Credit Karma. She has long worked with regulators to solve complex compliance issues and brings a thoughtful approach to her practice,” said Credit Karma Founder and CEO Kenneth Lin. “I am confident she will help us transform the consumer finance industry.” Wright brings more than 15 years of legal experience to Credit Karma, most recently as deputy general counsel at SolarCity (acquired by Tesla). She was previously a senior assistant district attorney in Atlanta, Georgia. Wright was also an attorney at Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP where she focused on government investigations, crisis management and data privacy. Prior to that, she was an attorney at Alston & Bird LLP.The appointment comes as Credit Karma continues to expand beyond its flagship credit monitoring services. Last month the company launched a new monitoring service for unclaimed money and added mortgage refinancing to its financial recommendations engine.
