Amex EveryDay® Credit Card: What you need to know
The Amex EveryDay® Credit Card has no annual fee and a unique approach to rewards, but it doesn’t provide a lot of value compared to similar credit cards.
Here are the card’s core features.
Earn more rewards when you use your card frequently
The card offers two points per $1 on up to $6,000 spent each calendar year at U.S. supermarkets (then one point per $1), and one point per $1 spent on all other purchases. But if you use your card 20 or more times on purchases in a billing period, you’ll earn an extra 20% — essentially giving you 2.4 points per $1 on eligible bonus purchases and 1.2 points per $1 spent on everything else.
That said, it’s easy to find no-annual-fee credit cards with higher rewards rates and more bonus categories. So even with the unique rewards structure, it’s tough to recommend this card strictly based on its rewards-earning power.
The welcome offer is relatively low
New cardholders can earn 10,000 bonus points when they spend $2,000 on purchases in the first six months after account opening. American Express Membership Rewards® points are worth up to 1 cent apiece when you redeem them with American Express, giving you a maximum of $100 in value for $2,000 in spending.
But it’s important to note that with some other top cash back credit cards, you can easily get double that value with a much lower spending requirement.
As a new cardholder, you’ll also get an introductory 0% APR on both purchases and balance transfers for 15 months from account opening. If you transfer a balance, you must request the transfer within 60 days of account opening, and you’ll pay a balance transfer fee of 3% of the amount of each transfer (minimum $5). While this isn’t necessarily the best offer out there, it’s solid. After the promotion ends, the variable APR jumps to 17.24% to 28.24%.
You can transfer your points to airline and hotel programs
While the Amex EveryDay® Credit Card doesn’t have the strongest rewards game, it does have something many traditional cash back credit cards don’t: the ability to transfer your rewards to travel loyalty programs — and potentially get more than 1 cent per point in value.
What else you need to know about the Amex EveryDay® Credit Card
If you’re thinking about applying for the Amex EveryDay® Credit Card, here are a couple of other features to keep in mind.
- You can redeem your rewards directly with American Express for travel, statement credits, gift cards, online shopping with select retailers and merchandise.
- You can earn bonus points and statement credits with select merchants through Amex Offers.
Who the Amex EveryDay® Credit Card is good for
You may consider this card if you want the ability to transfer your points to various travel loyalty programs without needing to pay an annual fee — most cards that offer this feature charge one. It also helps if you plan to use the credit card regularly and can earn the extra 20% point bonus every month.
The card can also be beneficial for people who want to make a large purchase and pay it down interest-free or who want to transfer a balance from a high-interest card and pay that down without interest charges. Just make sure you consider the balance transfer fee in your decision-making process.
All that said, if you’re looking for a card that will give you the most value for your spending, you’ll be able to find cards with much better rewards rates elsewhere.
Not sure this is the card for you? Consider these alternatives.
If you’re uncertain about the Amex EveryDay® Credit Card, or you want to take some time to shop around and compare multiple options, here are some to consider.
- Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express: Consider this card if you want more bonus rewards categories.
- Citi Double Cash® Card: This card has solid rewards rates on everyday purchases.
- Wells Fargo Autograph℠ Card: This card may be the right choice if you want to maximize rewards on several everyday spending categories and get redemption flexibility without losing value.

Amex remembers BKs or write offs.

Think of Credit Karma's Approval Odds, as a serving suggestion. They are not always accurate as they do not take into special considerations that some cards have, such as - previous bankruptcies or charge offs with the card. Amex is notorious for being unforgiving with these. Doesn't mean it is a bad card, but it is not a "rebuild your credit" product and have never claimed to be. It's all about managing expectations, and unfortunately Credit Karma misses the mark.
