Practically 5.5% effective cash back.
— Credit Karma Member
Mathematically, for every dollar R =1 we spend, we get R(0.05) = 1(0.05) in cash back; but if we use our cash back--within 120 days--to pay our bill after using our card on Priceline.com, we get an additional 1(0.05)(0.10) = 0.005 back as well. That is, for every dollar R we spend, we get R((0.05) + (0.005)) = 1(0.055) effective dollars in cash back! (However, note that we are ignoring the time-value-of-money and our oppertunity cost-of-capital; e.g., investing our cash back instead.) Hence, overall, this card great as long as Priceline.com is offering the lowest prices in the market--5.5% cash back is hard to beat. Moreoever, this is a great choice for someone who wants a travel card but doesn't want to pay an annual fee. e.g., the Chase Sapphire gives you $625 in rewards, but after amortizing that for 5 years (given its $95 annual fee), you would only have left 625(1.01)^5 - 95 S angle 5 at 0.01 = $172.29 (assuming you could deposit that into a savings account somewhere). Anyway, luckily for you, my two cents was free. Note: "Travel purchases eligible for the 10% Travel Redemption Bonus are defined as: Airlines, Hotels, Motels, . . ., Travel Agencies, Tourist Attractions, Discount Travel Sites, Trains, Buses, Taxis, Limousines, and Ferries. To qualify for the 10% Travel Redemption Bonus, travel purchases must be submitted by merchants using the eligible merchant category codes for purchases in the above categories." But remember, "Purchases at priceline.com that are not eligible [to earn 5% cash back] include cruise bookings, non-Name Your Own Price? car reservations, and hotel reservations designated as Pay When You StaySM." You're welcome.
