I have no idea what others are talking about when expressing their displeasure with USAA's personal loan application process. I believe that USAA considers everything when determining a decision on a loan. I have checking, savings, credit cards, direct deposit, auto loan, auto insurance, renters insurance and life insurance with USAA. I applied for a personal loan for 20k and was initially declined. I wasn't behind on any payments but I did have high balances on my credit cards. I ended up applying for a loan through Lending Club which is a new type of lending programs out there. I got approved for 20k with an 18% interest. I used that to pay down all my credit cards and reduce my debt to income ratio. Apparently it worked. I appled just today for a 32k loan and was instantly approved with an 11% interest which it pretty darn good. I plan on using those funds to pay off that Lending Club loan which I havent even made a payment on. Everyone on here just needs to quit complaining and expect to be approved just because theyve been a member for X amount of years or they think they have a good credit score. NEWSFLASH: Lenders dont just look at scores. They look at that plus income, debt to income ratio, time at job, time at address, etc. Ya'll need to know how to work your credit profile in your favor before you begin applying and successfully getting approvals.

Applied for loan, putting 50% of car value down, denied......2 wks later received notice of approval. Approval was at 1/2% more than quoted in wrting. Made advance pymts and was charged a fee for doing so. I would say, this is the usual line I receive from Banks and Lending thieves

Misleading Auto Loans

I contacted USAA because I wanted to purchase a car from auction. I gave the associate all of the information about the car and they told me I was approved up to $18500. Long story short, I won the auction and the price of the vehicle was 12000. I contacted USAA and told them I wanted to finalize my loan but only wanted to borrow 10000. At that time they informed me that they would only loan me 6000 because that is what there blue book says the car is worth. I have a dozen comps that show this vehicle has been trading in the 20K and above range. USAA refused to honor what they told me the week prior and said that whoever I spoke with made a mistake. So I bought the car outright without a loan from USAA. I have been a customer of USAA for 35 years and have had multiple loans with them. Zero F's given by them over my customer history. They were rude and dismissive on the phone and had I not been able to cover the auction I bid on without their loan they would have severely screwed up my finances and my auction business. They are the worst people to deal with and basically have become the Wal-Mart of banks. Go to your local credit union. I am in the process of moving everything away from this company and I tell as many people as I can to avoid them.

I been with usaa for about 10 years and they still won’t approve my loan. I served in the military for 20 years and retired and I have a direct deposit there. I think it’s time to change banks

I had a personal loan for $50,000 with USAA that I was planning on being temporary until I moved around some money. It had a horrible interest rate, but that is to be expected for an unsecured personal loan... the rate was 10.75 percent. I have a FICO credit score of over 800. After 6 months, I decided that I would just pay down the loan to 25k and refinance to get a better interest rate. I was already pre-approved for loans with multiple other banks at 6% APR. I gave USAA a chance to give me their rates before I went to a different banks and the results were ridiculous. They said I could refinance at 14% in order to bully me out of refinancing. It doesn't even make sense... needless to say, I went with a different bank at 6% and will never use USAA again. They are supposed to look out for vets and military members... not try and take advantage of them.

Decided to apply for a personal loan to consolidate a couple BTs we had after a cross-country move to lower our overall monthly payment. USAA rates were very competitive, just slightly (<1%) above the lowest rates for Excellent credit from Lightstream, and the highest rates (for fair/good credit) were significantly better than other options. Applying took about 5 minutes, just a few basic pieces of information, and I was approved for the full loan amount at their best advertised interest rate. Applied on a weekend night, so had to wait until Monday morning to call in and finalize disbursement, but everything went quick and smoothly. Got a great interest rate and no origination or prepayment fees. Very happy so far.

It does not matter what your credit score is. USAA will still charge you a higher interest rate than you warrant. All 3 credit agencies rate me as Excellent with a credit score above 820. USAA advertised a 2% rate for Excellent Customers. What I got was a rating of Good and a 4.4% rate. When I called to inquire what had happened USAA was kind enough to explain that they use a process that involves looking at your credit score and then they add a pinch of Voodoo, read some tea leaves, and then finish with a dash of ripping you off by giving you a higher rate for no reason. I applied for the same loan through Navy Federal and received a 1.7% rate for the same amount and same time frame. You work hard for what you have and do the right thing. It's a shame to say you can't trust USAA to do the same for you.

Help to military? Yeah right.

USAA says that they provide excellent service to those in active military, however they were of no help to our family. My husband put in his two weeks at work with the company he was doing contract work for. He did excellent work for them and 'worked himself out of a job.' Instead of ordering more supplies or giving him another task, they told him he could go ahead and leave. Well, of course, that put us behind. Now that he has left for active duty, he won't receive his first check for two more weeks. That is 4 weeks without his check. USAA will not let us defer or extend the payment because the loan has not been open for a year. (Even though we've sent in his orders.) They won't work with you until the loan is past due to the point that it is about to be repossessed (says their customer service rep). Which is ridiculous! We're trying to be proactive in this situation. How does this help military families exactly? We thought they would understanding of our circumstances since that's what they proclaim. Once this loan has been paid in full we will no longer use their services.
